A goal to have 2,000 new hydrogen-powered heavy goods vehicles on Austrian roads by 2030 has been set by a new partnership between OMV and Österreichische Post AG.
The company’s confirmed the ambitious target earlier this week (24th Feb) as part of a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that aims to promote commercial electromobility, powered by hydrogen fuel cells.
“Hydrogen is a key technology for CO2 reduction and for meeting climate targets – in industrial applications and on the road. We see huge potential in goods transport and public transport in particular, as these are areas where electrification can be difficult or even impossible,” said Thomas Gangl, OMV Chief Downstream Operations Officer.
“With the recent FID for the 10MW electrolysis plant at the Schwechat site, we have laid the cornerstone for hydrogen mobility. Now we are delighted to work with the Post to develop economically feasible solutions for hydrogen and reducing CO2.”
