In a year that has seen rapid policy and project movement, the Hydrogen Council has continued to provide insight on the evolving hydrogen market. Here Nochevnik offers insight on 2023, COP28’s hydrogen highlights and hopes for 2024.
2023 has been a pretty monumental year for hydrogen generally. What have the highlights been from the Hydrogen Council’s perspective?
By December 2023 committed investments in hydrogen internationally rose from nearly $30bn to nearly $40bn in just one year. We were at $20 bn in 2021. It used to take the industry 10 years to get to $1bn. For two years straight, in 2022 and 2023, we have witnessed a real hydrogen sprint with a ten-fold increase in FIDs within a year.
