Bosch is working hard to make hydrogen a success story. In 2020 alone, the automotive component manufacturer opened a fuel cell pilot plant in Wernau, Germany, based on solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology; joined H2Haul, a European project playing a vital role in accelerating the development of zero emission trucks; and revealed plans to begin full-scale production of distributed power stations based on fuel cell technology developed by Ceres Power.
Speaking at Bosch’s annual press conference, CEO Dr. Volkmar Denner called to move boldly into the hydrogen economy. Denner said a broad technology offensive that not only sets out a battery-electric path to sustainable mobility, but also takes into consideration efficient combustion engines and especially renewable synthetic fuels and fuel cells, is important for achieving the climate targets.
“Today’s hydrogen applications need to make it out of field testing and into the real economy,” Denner said at the press conference in April.
