$100m funding to support hydrogen fuel cell research for heavy-duty freights

A new funding scheme of up to $100m is set to be provided to the SuperTruck 3 project in support of its development of zero emission technolgoies, such as hydrogen and fuel cells, for heavy-duty freights.

DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) initially launched the SuperTruck initiatives in 2009 to improve heavy-duty truck freight efficiency by 50%.

SuperTruck 3 focuses on a range of approaches to electrification all-electric, plug-in hybrid systems using renewable biofuels, hydrogen and fuel cell technologies and hybridisation strategies such as fuel cell range extenders.
