For the smallest and flattest continent in the world, Oceania could have the biggest opportunity when it comes to hydrogen. A region with plentiful renewable energy resources and well-connected infrastructure, it is also in close proximity to Asia, giving Oceania an advantage with regards to potential exports. In Australia, ARENA estimates export demand for hydrogen to be over three million tonnes per year, and worth $10bn per year for the economy, by 2040. New Zealand currently has the fourth highest renewable energy for electricity in the OECD at 85% per annum, and the country is looking at hydrogen to fill the shortfall to reach 100% by 2035.
