Despite widespread EU funding being made available to various steelmakers to introduce hydrogen into operations over the course of 2023, one project of a much smaller scale looks ready to make a wider impact for a range of steel producers.
In October (2023), the European Commission said it would back a six-year research project with €88m ($92.7m) of funding to develop a pilot steel production plant that would use hydrogen DRI in Italy.
