In June 2023, the European Commission formally adopted two delegated acts under the Renewable Energy Directive (RED) II, outlining prescriptive rules on criteria on renewable use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for green or renewable hydrogen.
EU legislation treats renewable hydrogen (and other renewable fuels, such as ammonia, methanol, etc.) as renewable fuel of non-biological origin (RFNBO) if it is produced through renewable energy sources, except biomass1.
