Hydrogen holds particular promise within the mobility sector and, with a stream of new innovations being announced for the mobility industry almost daily, there is a greater need to facilitate the introduction of hydrogen vehicles.
However, one of the main obstacles in rolling out hydrogen mobility is having the necessary infrastructure in place to support this. Hydrogen refuelling stations are at the heart of the wider hydrogen economy.
This great challenge has been recognised by the wider industry and many have banded together to solve this issue. In 2021, 142 hydrogen refuelling stations went into operation worldwide, again more than ever before. 37 new hydrogen stations were opened in Europe, 89 in Asia, and 13 in North America. This brings the grand total of worldwide hydrogen refuelling stations to 685, with concrete plans in place for a further 252 in the coming years.
