Thanks for taking five with H2 View. Hydrogen power is at the forefront of Cummins’ portfolio today, with the company outlining an aggressive strategy at the end of 2020. What progress have you made nearly 12 months on?
Leading up to 2020 we made a lot of progress and are continuing to position ourselves to grow the hydrogen and fuel cell market to reflect the demand we are seeing. We acquired Hydrogenics in 2019, we invested in the development of solid oxide fuel cells to expand our stationary power capabilities and solid oxide electrolysers, as well as established a joint venture with NPROXX.
This year we continue to establish new partnerships and refine our products and production to help drive scale. We announced a partnership with Iberdrola, which announced its plans for one of the world’s largest electrolyser plants for the production of green hydrogen to be located in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. This investment in Spain comes on the heels of Iberdrola and Cummins’ decision to partner together on large-scale hydrogen production projects in Spain and Portugal.
Additionally, we announced two key initiatives underway with Air Products and Chevron. Cummins will work with Chevron to explore a strategic alliance to develop commercially viable business opportunities in hydrogen and other alternative energy sources. And Cummins will provide hydrogen fuel cell electric powertrains integrated into selected OEM partners’ heavy-duty trucks for Air Products to help accelerate the integration of hydrogen fuel cell trucks in the Americas, Europe and Asia.
