Take 5: An interview with… Dr. Steffan Hoffmann, Bosch UK & Ireland

Thanks for taking five with H2 View, Steffan. 2024 was a difficult year for hydrogen. How has Bosch viewed the developments?

When we invest, we typically invest not just for one market but for several. We’re still optimistic many markets will require hydrogen. The reason I say that is I’m pretty sure we will run into limits when it comes to electricity. We will find there are limits to the green electricity we can produce in our countries. To decarbonise road traffic, industrial production, and heating, there will be a gap that cannot be filled with electricity alone – it can only be filled with hydrogen.

What is your assessment of the current hydrogen landscape in the UK?

I don’t see much hydrogen production happening in the UK. There will be some, but it will mainly be to store excess electricity from solar and wind at peak times.
