Tenaris has been consolidating its technical expertise over the years to develop key competences and the technologies required to ensure reliable solutions to support the development of low carbon energy applications.
To address climate change, Tenaris is not only developing products and services for use in low-carbon energy applications, but it’s also decarbonising its operations. In February 2021, the company set a medium-term target to reduce the carbon emissions intensity rate of its operations by 30% by 2030, compared to a 2018 baseline.
Backed by more than 100 years of experience in the production of large vessels, Tenaris offers a wide range of products, in particular for hydrogen distribution and hydrogen storage for refuelling stations. With the industry moving toward two standard pressure levels for hydrogen vehicles – 350 bar and 700 bar, respectively needing 500 and 1,000 bar stationary storage – Tenaris has been focused on designing flexible and reliable solutions to ensure the highest performance under the extremely high working pressures required on the market.
In 2021, Tenaris launched THera™ – Tenaris Hydrogen era – its proprietary products and materials technology for hydrogen applications. These include hydrogen storage systems designed to withstand high pressures; tube trailers customised to meet size specifications for reliable transport options, onshore and offshore pipelines to safely transport up to 100% hydrogen, and a range of solutions for industrial segments such as refineries, hydrocarbons, and green/blue hydrogen processing. THera technology integrates materials, testing, life assessments, connections, and numerical designs to enable storage systems in hydrogen environment. The main benefits of using the THera storage system is that it is fully customisable, has a verified fatigue life, is long lasting and completely recyclable.
