ReFuelEU Aviation is already in force, but the final text released in October 2023 shows a new-found emphasis on hydrogen’s role in repowering European flights.
In 2021 the draft legislation mentioned hydrogen just two times, whereas the 92-page final text name-dropped hydrogen a total of 26 times – adopting paragraphs reflecting similar points made by Airbus in a policy position paper submitted to policymakers in April 2023.
