Joanna Sampson asks Hannah Bryson-Jones, Senior Consultant at Element Energy, the specialist net zero energy consultancy that acts as H2Accelerate’s Secretariat, what the collaboration’s expectations for the hydrogen truck market are.
H2Accelerate was formed in December 2020, what was the reason behind its creation?
Hannah Bryson-Jones (HBJ): H2Accelerate is a collaboration between hydrogen infrastructure players Shell, Linde, Total and OMV, and hydrogen truck OEMs Daimler, IVECO and Volvo. Those companies have agreed to work together to help build a commercially viable hydrogen trucking system in Europe.
The reason behind that is because together these parties need to make these really large-scale investments over the coming decades to be able to scale up the sector. And neither part can do it alone. In addition to that, we need policy support to be able to make the hydrogen trucking sector really scale up. So they’re coming together to advocate for the policy support that’s needed.
