Widely accepted to be the region with the most progressive policy framework and aspirations for a hydrogen-fuelled future in the world, is Europe. This is a position emboldened and accelerated by an abhorrent war on its own doorstep, a conflict laden with sanctions, economic impacts and counter-threats largely based on the stranglehold of fossil fuels.
Past months have seen a resurgence in the collective desire to break that stranglehold and to embrace a more sustainable (energy) future in every sense, increasingly backed up by targets, investments and policy. REPowerEU – Re-thinking roll-out
It was on May 18 that the much-anticipated REPowerEU Plan was presented by the European Commission (EC), setting out a target for 10 million tonnes of domestic renewable hydrogen production capacity by 2030. It also targets importing an additional 10 million tonnes by the same timeframe.
