Oman’s recent hydrogen efforts cannot be understated. The state-owned industry orchestrator Hydrogen Oman (Hydrom) has awarded eight projects in just two years – with a potential 1.2 million tonnes of green hydrogen expected to be produced annually.
It comes as the Sultanate aims to produce at least one million tonnes of green hydrogen per year by 2030 – as part of its efforts to decouple 70% of its revenues from fossil fuels.
As nations begin to level with the reality that 2030 hydrogen targets may be out of reach, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has estimated that Oman, alongside the UAE and Morocco, could exceed its end-of-decade hydrogen production targets.
