Hydrogen energy in France has visibly taken a big step forward in recent years, embraced as the sector unifying vector and increasingly prevalent in the country’s mobility plans in particular.
Many of the innovators in the global hydrogen economy can trace their roots back to France and in some instances its capital, Paris. Think Air Liquide, EDF, Faurecia, TOTAL and many more. From wider France we can consider Alstom, AREVA H2Gen, Engie, McPhy, Plastic Omnium and Symbio to name just a few. The list could easily go on.
France is becoming a hotbed for hydrogen activity and innovation, and this was boosted in summer 2018 with the announcement from then Minister of Ecological and Solidary Transition, Nicolas Hulot, of the historic ‘Plan Hydrogène’. Recognition that hydrogen will play a major role in the energy transition, Plan Hydrogène was the country’s bold statement of intent to make France a world leader in these technologies.
