Safe, simple, fast – hydrogen filling stations must function in the same way as diesel filling stations to be a practical, carbon dioxide (CO2)-free alternative to today’s global diesel standard. Advanced cryogenic hydrogen pumps are now taking efficiency to a new level. And a completely new refuelling process for liquid hydrogen can already compete with the diesel standard.
To make the transportation of heavy goods CO2-free, there is no way around hydrogen. The advantages are immense: the vehicles do not produce any local CO2 emissions and, by using green hydrogen, the goal of zero CO2 emissions can be achieved across the entire value chain, from the production of fuel to its consumption. Secondly, the refuelling time of around 10 minutes for a truck is comparable to conventional diesel refuelling. The range of vehicles is also comparable.
A pioneer in hydrogen technology
Linde has been working with hydrogen and the corresponding technologies for more than 100 years. The company has expertise across the entire hydrogen chain, from production, liquefaction, and storage to distribution and application. One focus is on hydrogen refueling systems (HRS) including the necessary services. In recent years, the Group has implemented numerous projects in this area. These include, for example, the world’s first refuelling system for hydrogen trains, the refuelling infrastructure for the world’s first hydrogen-powered ferry, and the first refuelling system for commercial vehicles in South Korea, as well as the most powerful HRS for trucks in Europe. In short, Linde technologies have already carried out over one million refuelling operations.
