Founded in 1997 as a spin-out of Sweden’s Linköping University, Impact Coatings has been delivering specialised coatings for components used across green energy and sustainable mobility sectors, with an increasing focus on hydrogen fuel cells and electrolysers.
While fuel cell OEMs continue to advance in-house technology developments to improve end-user experiences, certain properties, although detrimental to the system’s operation, remain inherent challenges.
Metal bipolar plates in fuel cells require properties such as thermal and electrical conductivity, and stability to ensure the efficient and long-standing operation of fuel cell systems. However, due to the environment within the systems, metal’s shortcomings make it vulnerable to corrosion and loss of conductivity, through an effect known as increase in interfacial contact resistance (ICR).
