It’s fair to say that most people now understand it’s time for the clean transportation shift in order to make a cleaner and greener future. But exactly why is this is important? And exactly what effects are traditional means of heavy-duty transportation having on the world we live in? Focusing on Switzerland alone, the country’s government has quantified the external cost of transport and its negative impact on crop growth, the health of residents and, of course, the wider world.
This tremendous impact that trucks can have on different aspects of our lives is something we may not even begin to consider when selecting our next form of transportation – whether that be a car, truck or even a motorcycle. This is something, however, that Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility is looking to change as it strives to take a leading role in Europe’s burgeoning hydrogen mobility ecosystem, with a focus on trucks.
“The study by the Swiss Government has revealed that pollution from transportation is responsible for approximately 87 tonnes of crop failure annually,” Beat Hirschi, CEO of Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility, told H2 View in an exclusive interview. “Pollution causes 17,300 lost years every year and 26,900 hospital admissions, and these very large costs often remain unconsidered.”
