Never before has hydrogen received so much attention – and so much pressure to prove itself. As part of the clean energy transition, it holds great potential to decarbonise key industries and reduce climate-warming emissions at a time when climate concerns have never been greater. That’s why countries and companies are counting on it to reach their Net Zero ambitions and are investing billions to get this new economy’s 1,000+ project pipeline up and running.
Yet how much climate benefit hydrogen can deliver depends on how we produce, manage and use it. And at a time when every emission counts, we must take the necessary actions to maximise hydrogen’s emissions-reduction power and minimise its risks. The steps the industry takes today will determine whether hydrogen can get ahead of the emissions curve, helping to halt and reverse the upwards trend.
