Proton Motor Fuel Cell GmbH (Proton Motor), a wholly owned subsidiary of London-listed Proton Motor Power Systems plc, was established in 1998 ahead of commissioning the “world’s first” fuel cell-powered forklift truck three years later. In 2015, the company signed a major deal with DB Bahnbau Gruppe GmbH to install uninterruptable emergency power systems in the railroad sector.
This June, Proton Motor completed its follow-up order from Deutsche Bahn’s subsidiary after five years of testing its indoor HyCabinet S24 fuel cell system in real-world conditions. The emergency power system (EPS), powered by HyModule® S8 fuel cell units, acts as a zero-emission emergency generator.
Proton Motor is also gearing up to deliver an additional HyCabinet S16 unit, utilising a HyModule S8 fuel cell system, to H2tec AG which is being employed to support emergency power systems in Switzerland’s road tunnels. Once delivered, the customer could potentially upgrade the system with an additional unit to provide 16kW of power.
