2024 has been nothing short of uncomfortable. It feels like the year that everything changed – the year reality set in, and the hype bubble finally burst.
Project cancellations have become increasingly public, final investment decisions (FIDs) are still too rare, and the ambitious goals for 2030 are starting to seem out of reach. Quite frankly, the industry’s ability to deliver on its long-standing promises is now being questioned.
Yes, the project pipeline is maturing, and we are beginning to see more double-digit megawatt plants coming online. However, it’s clear that hydrogen is still a way off from its “hockey stick” moment of rapid growth.
It would be easy to write a vexed column calling out the setbacks, the rollbacks on hydrogen goals, or the lack of a coordinated approach. But instead, this seems like the right moment to highlight the key areas that H2 View will be focusing on as we move into 2025.
