The Minister for Energy, Renewables and Hydrogen in Queensland was all smiles as he marked the opening of Australia’s first hydrogen refueller at a Brisbane service station, signalling not only a welcome infrastructure milestone but movement in its audacious ‘Hydrogen Super Highway’ venture
“Hydrogen is a game changing fuel,” he beamed. “We’ve worked with bp, BOC South Pacific and Hyundai Motor Company to make this a reality, and it’s just the first step of many.”
BOC is producing renewable hydrogen with a 220kW electrolyser powered by solar energy, which can be transported to the bp Port of Brisbane Truckstop where anyone can fill up a hydrogen car ‘in less than five minutes’. The Queensland Government’s fleet of hydrogen-powered Hyundai NEXOs were the first to use the new refueller.
