Despite the scale up of hydrogen fuel cells in the mobility sector, the appeal of hydrogen-fuelled internal combustion engines (ICEs) is gaining traction.
Hydrogen ICEs work in a similar way to how a traditional engine would burn gasoline or diesel, however the hydrogen fuel will emit nearly zero emissions, capable of delivering over 99% of a reduction in carbon emissions.
The hydrogen combustion process is similar to natural gas engines, with the hydrogen being stored in high-pressure tanks that is fed into the engine’s combustion chamber and mixed with air and then ignited by a spark plug, causing the process to rapidly combust.
