With the need to address climate change and reach net zero, it is clear emissions must be cut drastically from all areas of life, including sectors that are difficult to abate, such as heavy industry, heavy-duty vehicles, buses, trains and aviation. And with increasing recognition that hydrogen will play an important role in transforming these sectors, comes the challenge of deploying the technology at scale to support the shift to a hydrogen economy.
This is where Johnson Matthey comes in; the British business has been active in developing innovative components for fuel cells for more than 20 years. Building on this experience, Johnson Matthey recently announced it has merged its green hydrogen and fuel cells entities together under a new Hydrogen Technologies business. This new combined business will accelerate Johnson Matthey’s growth and scale-up in both markets, taking advantage of technical and manufacturing synergies, and building on the company’s decades of experience developing and manufacturing market-leading fuel cell components.
