Off the back of COP26, it’s clear that hydrogen’s intentions and interest phase is now behind us and the sector is sharpening its focus on the practicalities of mobilisation. Hydrogen in commercial transport in particular is coming into its own, and with it the realities of supply chain development are coming to the forefront.
Analysts tip the next decade will see hydrogen truly make its mark in heavy-duty zero emission transport as operators recognise zero emission can be achieved without compromise. Consequently, the enthusiasm for hydrogen is growing quickly and the ecosystem is developing at a pace never see before.
Yet the road ahead for hydrogen in trucking will not come without its challenges and while the vehicles themselves are becoming increasingly mature technology wise and will commence their decline down the cost curve, it’s the sourcing, storage and distribution of hydrogen fuel itself that can often be the tricky part for fleet operators to solve.
